Celebrating Women

International Women's Day (March 8) is a collective day of global celebration for the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, that also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

The day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action and the colour purple is worn and recognised on the day to symbolise women, as well as justice and dignity.

The world is witnessing a significant change and attitudinal shift in society's thoughts about women's equality and emancipation and though women are still not paid equally to that of their male counterparts, still not present in equal numbers in business or politics, and globally women's education, health and violence against them is worse than that of men - great improvements have been made. We do have female astronauts and prime ministers, for example.

But it's not enough.

So each year the world inspires and celebrates women's achievements.

The day is in fact an official holiday in many countries including Afghanistan, Cambodia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Russia, Uganda and Zambia, just to name a few.

A web of diverse local activity connects women from all around the globe ranging from political rallies, business conferences and networking events.

So to do my bit in an effort to make a difference, here's what I'll be doing come March 8th this year.

>> Wearing purple - and encouraging you to do the same.

>> Donating to a female-focused charity. You can view a selection of such charities

and foundations to support at internationalwomensday.com/Charities-Foundations

>> Offering $50 off all Champagne Makeovers booked on March 8th - can be claimed within 6 months of purchase.

Be a part of this special day and celebrate women - especially YOURSELF!
