My Fave Cosmetics Products
I’m often asked what cosmetic items I use for myself and the truth is I use a large range of products from many brands.
But of course I do have my favourites; so settle in . . . coz here they are . . .
Primer : L.A. Girl PRO Prep smoothing face primer. Not only does this product last AGES, I find it to provide the perfect surface for my foundation because it suits my skin type, is formulated with light diffusing particles and skin nourishing Vitamin E that gives a flawless finish, is super lightweight and easy to apply, it's completely paraben and fragrance free and keeps my makeup on all day even when I'm rushing around - y'all know I'm not a "toucher-upperer"!
Foundation : L. A. Girl Pro Coverage Illuminating Foundation. I keep coming back to this stuff and recommend it to my clients often. Why? Because it's ideal for a flawless looking, full coverage finish, it's lightweight formula is comfy for all day wear, the formula is paraben free formula and is packed with anti-oxidants to hydrate and improve the skin's appearance. It's unbelievably affordable too.
Concealer : L.A. Girl Pro Conceal HD Concealer and Revlon Photo Ready Concealer. Both my go-tos for "every day wear", though I'm not an every day concealer wearer, but these products work well for my skin type and are well priced.
BB Cream : L.A. Girl Pro BB Cream. Another fab product from this cool brand. Zero parabens and fragrance-free, this silky formula nourishes skin with Vitamin B3, C and E and is an all-in-one skin beautifier that primes, moisturizes and enhances skin tone.
Face powder : Nu Skin Custom Colour Moisturshade Wet/Dry Pressed Powder (in Natural Honey). This versatile, long-wearing powder is a two-in-one formula that can act as a powder or foundation depending on how it is applied. When applied dry it acts as a silky finishing powder that sets makeup and reduces shine, or if applied with a damp sponge will act as a light matte foundation.
Setting Powder : L.A. Girl HD Pro Translucent Setting Powder. This is a luxe finishing powder, made of 100% mineral silica, that sets foundation and mattifies skin, making it fab for oily complexions. It's a versatile product that evens complexion, softens lines and imperfections and gives a glowing, radiant look, suitable for everyday wear.
Highlighters : Sticks, cremes, pressed powder, I've used them all and honestly, I love 'em all. I'm currently using NYX Professional Makeup Born To Glow! Liquid Illuminator. The lightweight formula can be blended onto bare skin or mixed with foundation to create a dewy finish on eyes, lips and cheeks. However, I'm into anything that delivers a sheer, subtle radiance to the skin and that can be used alone, or mixed with foundation for added luminosity.
Lip Liner : L.A. Girl Ultimate Auto Lipliner Pencil (in Relentless Red). This is my go-to liner. It's rich, bold and compliments the bright, bold colours I regularly wear. I find it to be super long wearing and defines my lips with a soft, smudge-proof, anti-feathering matte finish. It is a quick twist easy applicator and never needs sharpening.
Lipstick : Nu Skin Powerlips Fluid. Since discovering these lippys I just can't comfortably and confidently wear anything else. This ultra long lasting, high performance lip colour contains a special blend of awesome skin-nourishing ingredients. The weightless formula doesn't budge, doesn't need touch-ups and comes in the most gorgeous colours. My personal fave is Explore and I wear it with a rich red liner and blend.
Eye Shadow : I have a gazillion eye shadow palettes. I use deep shades like charcoals and plums to create smokey look that widen and highlight the shape and green tones in my eyes. So I can't say that I have a fave, though I am currently getting a ton of use out of my City Colors 35 shade palette. The black and wine colours are my go-tos and the matte finish is perfect for every day wear.
Eyebrows : My measly wee brows need lots of attention so believe me when I say I've been a brow product junkie and tried everything on the market. I prefer a pencil as opposed to powder as I feel I get a more precise line, though I do blend and fill in gaps with a thin brow brush. If I'm honest, I still haven't found anything that doesn't smudge, especially during warmer weather when my skin is more oil prone, but I do have a large selection of brow pencils from L.A. Girl and Sephora to NYX and everything in between.
Mascara : I have a few I love. My preference is to have lash extensions but when I don't sport them, I'm wearing RevitaLash Double Ended Volume Set which has a volumizing primer on one side and mascara on the other. This dual-ended product contains conditioning peptides that preps lashes as well as instantly amplify length and fullness. I also find it is long-wearing, water-resistant and smudge-proof.
Blush : I'm a big fan of warm brights i.e. orange shades that look especially good on olive toned skin and my never fail is Baked Blush in Coral Burst by Maybelline, which is from the Color Goes Electric Spring Collection in 2013. It’s less of a coral and more of a straight up orange. The quality of this baked blush is outstanding – pigmented and easy to blend.
Setting Spray : L.A. Girl Setting Spray. This product is a must for me, especially when I'm working, out and about with clients, because it contains glycerin & botanical purslane extract to hydrate the skin, fix and set makeup for extended wear and reduce shine.
